Welcoming people and making them feel at home is one way in which ushers/greeters help build up the church. Hospitality is a vital element in creating a sense of community for worship. A person who feels welcomed and valued is much more likely to enter wholeheartedly into the celebration of the liturgy, giving thanks to God for the love that God pours out on us.

Ushers greet and seat people, pass out bulletins, and direct Communion.  Other responsibilities include taking up the collection, straightening up pews after Mass, selecting the honor family for presentation of our gifts, and assisting people as needed.

Service requires a commitment of about 1 ½ hours surrounding the Mass.  Plan to be in place 20 minutes before Mass to welcome people and assist with seating and 10 minutes after Mass to hand out the bulletins and straighten up the worship aids in the pews.

How to Serve

Ushers are men, women and even children at St. Louise that help make Mass an enjoyable experience. Families are welcome to serve together.  Following completion of an orientation and training session, ushers are put on a monthly schedule based on their Mass preference. We hold orientations as needed throughout the year. Ushers serve on a team of four or more, we have three sets of teams (A, B, C) for each Mass, so you serve every third week.

If you have any questions, please send an email to ushers@stlouise.org, or ask any usher and they would be glad to answer any questions you have.
