Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (WPCU)
Description: A week when Christian churches throughout the world celebrate ways towards Christian Unity. Parishioners are urged to remember in prayer our Sisters and Brothers in other Christian communities – particularly our Covenant Partners. Mentions of our Sisters and Brothers in other groups/denominations during the General Prayer of the Faithful at masses and in the bulletin are supported by a display in the Church atrium. Groups from St. Louise and our Covenant Partners visit the services of other partners.
When: Worldwide January 18th - 25th every year.
Location: Celebrated at St Louise and other Christian congregations per individual church
Other Details: Usually Includes focused poster displays in church vestibule; and pulpit announcements and readings to celebrate the week. Themes for each year are developed by the Graymoor Ecumenical and Interreligious Institute (https://geii.org/)
(Note: The “Atonement” in the “The Franciscan Friars of Atonement” is actually pronounced “At-One-Ment” coming from John 17:21 “that they all may be one” (Ut Unum Sint) and is not “atonement” meaning “amends” or “penance.”)
There are opportunities for creativity in celebration. Contact the EIC at [email protected] with your ideas.
